At first glance, the new Profoto L600D and L600C CoB LED fixtures might look like sleek and powerful ballast free Monoblocs, which, to be fair, they are.
But look a little closer and there is a lot more going on inside these compact 600W fixtures. From liquid cooling to built-in gels, full RGB-output, flash-style functionality and serious light shaping compatibility, the L600 range has been designed for modern hybrid productions where speed, colour accuracy and creative control all very much matter.
So, here are a few things that make the Profoto L600D and L600C especially interesting.
They use liquid cooling
Yes, really.
The L600 range uses Profoto’s HydroCTech™ liquid cooling system, which helps manage heat inside a compact, all-in-one body. That means no separate external ballast, fewer extra cables, and a cleaner setup on set. This new LED system has been designed for quiet, efficient performance in a lightweight housing, with no ballast.
Liquid cooling is something many people associate with high-performance gaming PCs, but here it is being used to help keep a powerful 600W production light compact, controlled and easier to work with.
In other words: less faff, less bulk, more light.
They are surprisingly lightweight for 600W lights
A 600W production light sounds like it should be big, awkward and slightly annoying to move around - but that couldn't be further from the truth.
The L600C weighs just 6.1kg including the yoke, with Profoto describing it as a lightweight 600W all-in-one fixture.
That matters because these lights are designed for real production environments: studios, location work, interviews, commercial shoots, video sets and hybrid photo/video workflows. When you are moving lights around all day, weight makes a difference.
Powerful is good, but powerful and portable is better.
They work with Profoto light shapers
One of the big advantages of the L600D and L600C is that they use a native Profoto mount.
That means they are compatible with a wide range of Profoto light shaping tools, rather than feeling like a completely separate lighting system. The native mount and umbrella holder make the L600C compatible with more than 100 Profoto light shapers.
So whether you want soft, flattering light, harder punchy light, more control, more spread or more direction, you are not starting from scratch with a totally differnt brand.
For existing Profoto users, this is a very big deal.
They are built for colour accuracy
Colour accuracy might not sound glamorous, but it is one of those things you really notice when it goes wrong.
The L600C has a impressive TLCI rating of 99, and Profoto positions this as supporting natural skin tones and accurate colour reproduction.
For photographers and filmmakers, that matters when you are working with skin tones, products, fabrics, brand colours or mixed lighting setups. If the light is cleaner and more accurate, there is less for you to fix later.
Basically, your edit starts in a better place.
The L600C has over 300 built-in gels
This is the fun one.
The L600C gives you full-colour creative control and Profoto lists 300+ built-in gels as one of its key features.
That means you can move from clean white light to creative colour looks without rummaging through physical gels, clipping things to the front of fixtures, or trying to recreate the same colour later by memory.
For music videos, fashion, beauty, portraits, commercial sets and social-first content, that opens up a lot of creative possibilities very quickly.
Bonus point: they are made for hybrid productions
The L600D and L600C sit in a really useful space for teams who are shooting both stills and video.
The L600D is the daylight-focused option, designed for powerful, clean daylight output. The L600C is the creative colour option, with wide colour temperature control, full-colour capability and built-in gels.
So the choice is fairly simple:
- Need powerful daylight? Go L600D.
- Need full creative colour control? Go L600C.
- Need both? That is where the range starts to get really interesting.
The Profoto L600D and L600C are not just “another pair of LED lights”. They are compact, powerful, colour-accurate fixtures built for modern productions where lighting needs to be fast, flexible and creatively useful.
Whether you are working in a studio, on location, across video and stills, or building out a more advanced lighting setup, the L600 range is designed to help you work faster without giving up control.
