PHOXENE SUPPORT
Frequently Asked Questions
From compatibility and performance to fitting and after-sales support, find answers to common questions about Phoxene replacement flash tubes and protective glass domes.
Who are Phoxene?
Phoxene is a French company specialising in xenon flash technology, with a history dating back to 1988.
Its photographic range includes replacement flash tubes and protective glass domes compatible with selected Profoto, Broncolor and other professional studio lighting equipment.
Are Phoxene parts genuine manufacturer parts?
No. Phoxene products are independent third-party replacements designed for the equipment specified in each product listing.
They are not original Profoto, Broncolor or other equipment manufacturer components. Phoxene is independent of these manufacturers, which do not endorse its products. Brand names are used to identify compatibility.
Where available, AJ's will provide a link to the corresponding genuine manufacturer part.
What does "compatible" mean?
Compatible means that Phoxene has designed a replacement part to work with the specified equipment.
It does not mean the replacement is identical to the original manufacturer's component in construction, lifespan or every aspect of performance.
Always check the exact models and versions listed on the product page before ordering.
How do Phoxene parts compare with original parts?
Phoxene offers alternative replacement flash tubes and protective glass domes for selected studio lighting equipment.
Although designed for the same application, their construction, lifespan and performance characteristics may differ from original manufacturer parts.
AJ's supplies both compatible and genuine replacement options. Please review the individual specifications, use the genuine part link where available, or contact us for advice.
Will replacing a tube affect colour temperature?
Colour temperature depends on the flash tube and the protective glass dome or plate used with it. Choosing the correct clear or colour-corrected version is important.
An exact match with your existing lights cannot be guaranteed, especially where older tubes have seen considerable use.
For colour-critical photography, check your lights together after replacement and update your white balance or colour profile where appropriate.
Unsure which version you need? Send AJ's photographs of your flash head's model label, existing tube and dome so we can help identify an appropriate replacement combination.
Is a Phoxene tube suitable for my flash power and workload?
Only use a replacement tube with the equipment and within the maximum flash-energy rating specified on its individual product page.
A tube's energy rating alone does not establish suitability for sustained rapid shooting.
For intensive studio use, rental environments or high-volume e-commerce photography, contact AJ's before ordering so we can help confirm the appropriate option with Phoxene.
Can I replace a flash tube or dome myself?
Some equipment permits user replacement of specific components, while other replacements require a trained service technician.
Always consult the instructions for your exact flash model and follow its isolation, cooling, electrical safety and protective equipment requirements.
Flash equipment may retain hazardous electrical charges after disconnection. Do not open the flash housing or attempt internal repairs.
If the glass is cracked or shattered, or you are unsure about the procedure, stop and seek servicing advice.
How do I know if my flash tube needs replacing?
Possible signs of deterioration include:
- Reduced light output under unchanged conditions.
- Noticeable changes in colour.
- Inconsistent exposure or colour at the same settings.
- Repeated misfires or failure to flash.
- Cracked or broken tube glass.
Darkening or marks can develop with use, but appearance alone does not establish that replacement is necessary.
Misfires may also be caused by radio or sync issues, trigger settings, insufficient recycling time, overheating protection, power problems or internal faults.
Check your equipment's troubleshooting guidance before ordering or contact AJ's for assistance.
When should I replace a protective glass dome?
Replace a dome that is cracked, chipped or broken. If it is loose or not secured correctly, stop using the equipment and arrange for inspection.
Replacement may also be appropriate when deterioration of the glass or coating affects light transmission or colour. A deliberately frosted finish is normal and should not be mistaken for damage.
A suitable, undamaged dome does not automatically need replacing when you change a flash tube. Replacing a dome will not normally resolve misfires.
How long should a replacement flash tube last?
There is no single lifespan that applies to every flash tube.
Service life depends on tube design, flash energy, shooting frequency, operating temperature and handling.
Where Phoxene provides a rated lifespan for a specific product, AJ's will include this in the specifications along with any relevant conditions.
A quoted flash count should not be treated as a guaranteed service life.
What warranty and after-sales support do I receive?
If you experience a problem with a Phoxene component purchased from AJ's, please contact us with your order number, equipment model and a description of the issue.
We can assist with compatibility checks and arrange assessment with Phoxene where necessary.
Any manufacturing defect warranty is separate from Phoxene's conditional 30-day satisfaction programme. That programme has eligibility requirements, including conditions concerning use, functionality and damage.
Please contact AJ's before purchasing to confirm whether the programme applies to your order and what defect cover is available.
Phoxene replacements are not covered by Profoto or Broncolor manufacturer warranties. Equipment manufacturers may exclude faults or damage caused by third-party parts. Check your equipment warranty terms before fitting a replacement.
Contact us before returning an item so we can explain the next steps. Your applicable statutory rights remain unaffected.

Watch & Learn
Looking to replace a flash tube or protective glass dome? Explore fitting guidance and familiarise yourself with the correct procedure for your equipment before undertaking any replacement.
Replacement procedures vary between flash head models. Always consult the equipment manufacturer's official instructions and any relevant fitting videos for your exact model before proceeding.
Important Safety Information
Before replacing any flash tube, modelling lamp or protective glass dome, ensure the person undertaking the work has the necessary training and follows the instructions for the exact equipment model.
Switch off, isolate and disconnect the equipment, remove batteries where applicable, and follow the manufacturer's cooling and electrical safety procedures. Flash equipment can retain dangerous electrical charges after disconnection.
Some replacements require a trained service technician. Do not open the flash housing or attempt internal electrical repairs.
Stop using equipment with cracked or shattered glass and seek servicing advice. Follow the manufacturer's requirements for eye and hand protection. Avoid touching flash tubes and modelling lamps with bare hands.
If you are unsure about any procedure, stop and seek professional guidance.
