Colorama FAQs
Frequently asked questions about Colorama paper backgrounds
From choosing the right roll size to finding the best colour for your shoot, here are some of the most common questions photographers and creators ask about Colorama seamless background paper.
The best size depends on what you are photographing. 1.35m wide Colorama rolls are a practical choice for headshots, tighter portraits, tabletop photography and smaller studio spaces. A 2.72m wide background gives you considerably more room for full-length portraits, couples, fashion, larger products and subjects that need space to move. Selected Colorama shades are also available in wider or longer rolls for larger studio setups.
Seamless paper is used to create a clean, continuous studio background without a visible join between the wall and floor. The roll is normally curved gently onto the floor to create a smooth sweep. Colorama paper backgrounds are suitable for portrait photography, fashion, product photography, e-commerce, commercial shoots, video and content creation.
It depends on the look you want to create. White shades such as Arctic White and Polar White work well for bright, clean portraiture. Greys such as Storm Grey, Smoke Grey and Charcoal are versatile choices for more controlled or dramatic lighting, while stronger colours such as Carnation, Cherry, Lagoon or Royal Purple can give fashion and creative portraits a much bolder look.
White, grey and black are some of the most versatile background colours for product photography. White is particularly useful for clean e-commerce imagery, while grey gives you more control over contrast and can be made lighter or darker through lighting. Black works well for dramatic products and reflective subjects. For branded or editorial product photography, a coloured Colorama paper can also be used to match or contrast with the product.
Both are popular white Colorama backgrounds, but they create slightly different looks. Arctic White is the cleaner, crisper white option, making it particularly useful for high-key photography and e-commerce. Polar White is a warmer white, which can give portraits and lifestyle imagery a slightly softer appearance. Lighting, exposure and your monitor can all affect how a shade appears on screen.
Colorama rolls can be mounted on a suitable background support system or studio background holder. Unroll the paper downwards and allow it to curve gently from the vertical background onto the floor rather than creating a sharp fold. This smooth curve creates the classic seamless studio look. Larger rolls should always be supported securely because of their width and weight.
Yes. One of the advantages of a paper background roll is that a worn, creased or dirty section can simply be trimmed away to reveal a fresh section of paper. Keeping shoes and studio floors clean, avoiding moisture and only unrolling as much paper as you need can help extend the life of the roll.
Yes. Colorama seamless paper can be used for photography, video production, interviews, social content and other studio-based creative work. Neutral shades provide a clean professional setting, while ChromaGreen and ChromaBlue can be used for chroma-key workflows where the background will be replaced during post-production.
